City 2 Surf is only a week away! Sunday 8th August Starting from Hyde Park all the way through to Bondi Beach.
1 week to go…
- The worst thing you can do is over train
- Easy back the rest of your training for this week; a few light runs with some hills thrown in to build your confidence for heart break hill
- Get plenty of sleep and good nutrition food, cut out the grog so you are ready for race day
The day before …
- Drink plenty of water so your body is completely hydrated
- Have plenty of high in carbohydrate food for dinner, but KEEP IT SIMPLE (you don’t want an upset stomach on race day!)
- Stay in and have an early night
Pre Race…
- Be up nice and early to have you usual breakfast about 2 hrs before the gun goes off, keep it light e.g. toast or weetbix, nothing greasy or heavy on the stomach.
- Then a banana about an hour before and stop drinking 45min before the race
Keep on track…
- Set your pace from the start of the race keep it comfortable
- The key to running the race is sticking to a steady pace and finishing strong. Avoid the biggest mistake so many people make each year of going too fast, too soon.
- If you start to feel yourself breathing heavy, it’s ok to slow down a little, not too much, just ease off the pace until you are comfortable again.
